Soundpaint 5.0 Sampler Update Adds Sample Editor and Arp

Soundpaint 5.0 Sampler Update Adds Sample Editor and Arp

The team at 8Dio has released the Soundpaint 5.0 free sampler plugin update, introducing custom user sample mapping and an overhauled arpeggiator engine. The core virtual instrument workstation remains entirely free to download for both macOS and Windows, enabling producers to build their own multisampled patches alongside commercial library expansions. Existing users can update directly via the proprietary Soundpaint desktop downloader.

Built-in Sample Editor and Brush Mapping

Previous iterations of Soundpaint relied primarily on curated expansions, but version 5.0 shifts focus toward custom sound design. The centerpiece of this release is "Brush," a dedicated sample editor and key-mapping interface that allows users to construct multi-sample instruments from their own audio files.

Key features in the new sample editing suite include:

  • Visual waveform editing with customizable sample start, end, and crossfade loop markers
  • The Time Pro intelligent time-stretching algorithm with automatic audio BPM detection
  • Per-sample and group parameters for pitch tuning, resonant filtering, and ADSR envelope shaping
  • Drag-and-drop key zone assignment across standard 128-note MIDI ranges

2,000-Step Arpeggiator and Rack Processing

The arpeggiator has undergone a massive revision. While standard patterns run up to 128 steps, individual steps can now be subdivided to create complex rhythmic sequences reaching up to 2,000 steps. Producers can adjust step velocity, apply per-step stutter or note glue, choose custom chord voicings, and explore new swing and sequence inversion modes.

Version 5.0 also introduces an upgraded rack effect framework. A notable addition is rack-level round-robin cycling, which alters processing behaviors across successive MIDI notes. This function operates independently from traditional sample round-robins, generating dynamic acoustic movement even when working with static audio material.

Compatibility and Pricing

Soundpaint 5.0 is available as a 64-bit plugin in VST3, AU, and AAX formats, as well as a standalone application. It runs natively on macOS (including Apple Silicon) and Windows 10 or later.

The core Soundpaint 5.0 software is completely free to install and includes a selection of starter instruments. Advanced workflow tools and commercial sound packs remain available as optional paid purchases.

Visit the official Soundpaint website to download the installer or update your current setup.
